The human HIST1H2AM protein is a core component of nucleosomes, playing a critical role in chromatin structure and gene regulation. As a member of the histone H2A family, it facilitates DNA packaging by forming an octamer with histones H2B, H3. and H4. around which DNA wraps to maintain genomic stability. HIST1H2AM is encoded by the HIST1 cluster on chromosome 6. a region densely packed with histone genes.
