CDC42 effector protein 1 (CDC42EP1), also known as BORG1. is a member of the CDC42EP family that interacts with the Rho GTPase CDC42 to regulate cytoskeletal dynamics and cell morphology. It contains a conserved BCH domain mediating protein-protein interactions, facilitating the assembly of multi-component complexes. CDC42EP1 binds activated CDC42. linking it to downstream effectors involved in cell polarity, migration, and junction formation. By stabilizing CDC42-GTP interactions, it modulates actin polymerization, filopodia formation, and cell adhesion processes.

Aberrant CDC42EP1 expression is implicated in diverse pathological conditions, including cancer metastasis, immune disorders, and inflammatory diseases. Its dysregulation may disrupt epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), promote tumor cell invasion, or impair immune cell chemotaxis.
