The SOS1 (Son of Sevenless homolog 1) protein is a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) that activates RAS signaling by promoting the conversion of RAS-GDP to its active GTP-bound form. It plays a critical role in regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival through the RAS-MAPK pathway. Dysregulation of SOS1. often due to mutations or overexpression, has been implicated in various cancers, including lung, colon, and pancreatic malignancies, as well as developmental disorders like Noonan syndrome.
