背景信息

The GRM7 antibody targets the metabotropic glutamate receptor 7 (mGlu7), a Class C G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) primarily expressed in the central nervous system. As one of eight mGlu receptors, GRM7 regulates synaptic transmission and plasticity by modulating neurotransmitter release, particularly glutamate and GABA. It is predominantly localized presynaptically, acting as an autoreceptor to inhibit glutamate release or heteroreceptor to influence other neurotransmitters. GRM7 signaling involves coupling with Gαi/o proteins, reducing cAMP levels, and regulating ion channel activity.

Research using GRM7 antibodies has linked this receptor to neurological and psychiatric disorders, including anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorders, and epilepsy. Antibodies against GRM7 (polyclonal or monoclonal) are critical tools for detecting receptor expression via Western blot (WB), immunohistochemistry (IHC), or immunocytochemistry (ICC). They also aid in studying GRM7's role in synaptic function, behavior, and disease mechanisms.

Recent studies highlight GRM7 as a therapeutic target, with agonists/antagonists explored for neuropsychiatric treatments. Variants in the GRM7 gene are associated with altered receptor function in neurodevelopmental conditions. However, antibody specificity remains a challenge due to homology among mGlu receptors, requiring rigorous validation via knockout controls. Overall, GRM7 antibodies are indispensable for advancing understanding of glutamate signaling and its implications in brain disorders.
