ARSA (arylsulfatase A) antibodies are primarily associated with the study and diagnosis of metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD), a rare lysosomal storage disorder. Mutations in the ARSA gene lead to enzyme deficiency, causing toxic sulfatide accumulation in the nervous system, which drives MLD progression. ARSA antibodies are tools used in research and diagnostics to detect enzyme levels, assess protein expression, and study disease mechanisms. In diagnostic labs, they aid in confirming MLD through immunohistochemistry or Western blotting by identifying reduced or absent ARSA in patient samples.
