The ABHD11 (abhydrolase domain-containing protein 11) antibody is a tool used to detect and study the ABHD11 protein, a member of the α/β-hydrolase superfamily. This family is characterized by a conserved catalytic triad (serine, aspartate, histidine) and diverse roles in lipid metabolism, signaling, and other cellular processes. ABHD11. however, remains poorly characterized compared to other family members. It is a 28 kDa protein encoded by the ABHD11 gene located on human chromosome 7p22.1. Early studies suggest its potential involvement in mitochondrial function and interactions with proteins linked to neurodegenerative diseases, such as PARK7/DJ-1. which is associated with early-onset Parkinson’s disease.
ABHD11 antibodies are primarily utilized in research to investigate the protein’s expression, localization, and function via techniques like Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry. Commercial antibodies are typically raised in rabbits or mice using peptide antigens derived from human ABHD11 sequences. Validation data often emphasize specificity through knockout controls or siRNA knockdown. Recent interest in ABHD11 stems from its possible roles in cancer progression and metabolic disorders, though mechanistic insights remain limited. Challenges include verifying antibody cross-reactivity across species and distinguishing isoforms. Overall, ABHD11 antibodies serve as critical reagents for unraveling the protein’s biological significance and its potential as a therapeutic or diagnostic target.
