CIRBP (Cold-Inducible RNA-Binding Protein) is a stress-responsive RNA-binding protein belonging to the glycine-rich RNA-binding protein family. It plays a regulatory role in post-transcriptional gene expression by influencing mRNA stability, splicing, and translation. Initially identified for its induction under mild hypothermia (32–35°C), CIRBP is also upregulated under other cellular stresses, including hypoxia, UV radiation, and nutrient deprivation. Its expression is linked to adaptive cellular processes such as cell cycle regulation, apoptosis, and inflammatory responses, making it relevant in cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and ischemia-reperfusion injury studies.
CIRBP antibodies are essential tools for detecting and quantifying CIRBP protein levels in research. They enable the study of its subcellular localization, dynamic expression under stress conditions, and interactions with target mRNAs or proteins. These antibodies are widely used in techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence. Specificity validation often involves knockdown/knockout controls or recombinant protein blocking. Commercial CIRBP antibodies are typically developed against conserved epitopes, showing cross-reactivity in humans, mice, and rats.
Recent studies highlight CIRBP's dual role in diseases—it may promote tumor progression in certain cancers while exerting protective effects in neuronal or ischemic tissues. Research using CIRBP antibodies continues to unravel its context-dependent mechanisms, particularly its therapeutic potential in hypothermic medical interventions or stress-related pathologies.
