CD36. a member of the scavenger receptor class B family, is a transmembrane glycoprotein involved in diverse physiological processes, including lipid metabolism, angiogenesis, innate immunity, and cellular adhesion. It interacts with ligands such as oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL), long-chain fatty acids, thrombospondin-1. and microbial components, linking it to pathologies like atherosclerosis, diabetes, cancer, and infectious diseases. CD36 antibodies are critical tools for studying its expression, localization, and function. Developed using immunogens derived from extracellular or intracellular domains of human or murine CD36. these antibodies enable detection via Western blot, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence. Some function-blocking antibodies are employed to inhibit CD36-mediated signaling or ligand uptake in experimental models. Commercial clones (e.g., FA6-152. SMφ) vary in species reactivity and applications, requiring validation for specific assays.
