背景信息

The phospholipase A2 group VII (PLA2G7) antibody targets the protein encoded by the PLA2G7 gene, also known as lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) or platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase (PAF-AH). This enzyme hydrolyzes oxidized phospholipids in low-density lipoproteins (LDL), generating pro-inflammatory mediators like lysophosphatidylcholine and oxidized free fatty acids, which contribute to vascular inflammation and atherosclerosis. PLA2G7 is primarily secreted by macrophages and circulates bound to lipoproteins, making it a biomarker for cardiovascular disease risk.

PLA2G7 antibodies are essential tools in research and diagnostics, enabling quantification and localization of the enzyme in tissues and biological fluids. They are used in techniques such as ELISA, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry to study PLA2G7's role in atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and other inflammatory conditions. Elevated Lp-PLA2 levels correlate with increased risk of stroke and coronary artery disease, driving interest in therapeutic inhibition. However, PLA2G7's dual role—anti-inflammatory in degrading platelet-activating factor (PAF) versus pro-inflammatory in plaque destabilization—complicates its clinical interpretation. Antibodies help clarify these mechanisms by assessing expression patterns, activity modulation, and interactions with pharmacological inhibitors. Commercial PLA2G7 antibodies are typically validated for specificity across human and model organism samples, supporting both basic research and drug development targeting inflammatory pathways.
