背景信息

**Background of SRA Antibodies**

Scavenger receptor class A (SRA), primarily represented by SR-A1 (CD204), is a transmembrane glycoprotein predominantly expressed on macrophages and dendritic cells. It belongs to the scavenger receptor family, known for recognizing a broad range of ligands, including modified low-density lipoproteins (LDL), bacterial pathogens, apoptotic cells, and extracellular matrix components. Structurally, SRA features a collagenous domain critical for ligand binding and a cysteine-rich C-terminal region involved in receptor multimerization.

SRA plays a dual role in immunity and pathology. It contributes to innate immune defense by mediating pathogen clearance and cellular debris removal, while also promoting inflammatory responses. However, its ability to internalize oxidized LDL links it to atherosclerosis development. In cancer, SRA expression on tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) may modulate tumor progression by influencing immune evasion and angiogenesis.

SRA antibodies are essential tools for studying these roles. They enable detection of SRA expression in tissues via techniques like immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry. Functional blocking antibodies are used to investigate SRA’s involvement in disease pathways, such as foam cell formation in atherosclerosis or immunosuppression in tumors. Additionally, SRA-targeting therapeutic antibodies are explored for modulating macrophage activity in inflammatory diseases and cancer immunotherapy. Research on SRA antibodies continues to clarify its complex roles in homeostasis, infection, and chronic diseases.
