CD10 antibody targets the CD10 antigen, a cell surface metalloprotease also known as neutral endopeptidase (NEP) or common acute lymphoblastic leukemia antigen (CALLA). First identified in the 1970s, CD10 is a 90-100 kDa type II transmembrane glycoprotein encoded by the *MME* gene. It enzymatically cleaves bioactive peptides (e.g., enkephalins, bradykinin) and regulates cellular signaling, proliferation, and apoptosis. In hematopathology, CD10 is a well-established marker for B-cell development stages and is highly expressed in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), follicular lymphoma, and Burkitt lymphoma. Its absence or presence aids in differentiating ALL from acute myeloid leukemia (AML) or other malignancies.
CD10 antibodies are widely used in diagnostics via flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry to classify leukemias/lymphomas and assess tumor origins. Beyond lymphoid cells, CD10 is expressed in non-hematopoietic tissues (e.g., kidney, placenta, fibroblasts), which can complicate interpretations. Therapeutically, CD10 has been explored in targeted therapies, though clinical applications remain limited. Its role in degrading chemotherapeutic agents (e.g., cisplatin) also highlights potential implications in drug resistance. Overall, CD10 antibodies remain indispensable tools in cancer diagnosis and research, bridging insights into cellular physiology and disease mechanisms.
