背景信息

Recombinant human LCE3B (Late Cornified Envelope 3B) protein is a genetically engineered variant of the naturally occurring LCE3B protein, a member of the late cornified envelope (LCE) gene family. This family comprises over 40 genes clustered on chromosome 1q21. a region linked to epidermal differentiation and skin barrier function. LCE proteins are predominantly expressed in the epidermis, particularly during keratinocyte terminal differentiation, and contribute to the formation of the cornified envelope—a critical structure for skin integrity and hydration. LCE3B, specifically, is characterized by its cysteine-rich structure and potential involvement in cross-linking keratinocytes during cornification.

Interest in recombinant LCE3B stems from its association with inflammatory skin disorders. Genome-wide studies identified LCE3B deletions as susceptibility factors in psoriasis, suggesting its role in immune regulation or barrier repair. Recombinant LCE3B enables functional studies to dissect its molecular mechanisms in skin homeostasis and pathology. Produced via bacterial or mammalian expression systems, the purified protein is utilized to investigate interactions with lipids, antimicrobial peptides, or immune mediators. It also serves as an antigen in autoimmune studies, given the potential link between LCE proteins and psoriatic autoimmunity. Current research focuses on its therapeutic potential in epithelial regeneration, wound healing, and modulating inflammatory responses.
