背景信息

**Background of Recombinant Human C6orf203 Protein**

C6orf203, also known as chromosome 6 open reading frame 203, is a poorly characterized protein encoded by the *C6orf203* gene in humans. This evolutionarily conserved protein is ubiquitously expressed, with higher levels observed in tissues such as the heart, liver, and skeletal muscle. Structurally, it contains a conserved DUF1518 domain, suggesting potential roles in hydrolytic or nucleotide-binding activities, though its precise biochemical function remains unclear.

Emerging studies implicate C6orf203 in mitochondrial translation and ribosome assembly. It has been proposed to interact with mitochondrial ribosomal proteins, such as MRPL18, potentially influencing mitochondrial protein synthesis and energy metabolism. Additionally, genomic analyses link *C6orf203* to neurodevelopmental disorders and cancers, though mechanistic insights are limited.

Recombinant human C6orf203 protein, produced via heterologous expression systems like *E. coli* or mammalian cells, enables functional and structural studies. Its purified form is used to investigate molecular interactions, subcellular localization, and enzymatic activities. Despite progress, further research is needed to define its physiological roles, regulation, and relevance in disease pathways, highlighting its potential as a target for therapeutic exploration.
