**Background of Human C4orf14 Protein**  

C4orf14 (Chromosome 4 Open Reading Frame 14) is a poorly characterized protein encoded by the *C4orf14* gene located on human chromosome 4 (4q31.21). Despite limited functional annotation, bioinformatic analyses suggest it contains conserved structural domains, including putative coiled-coil regions and nuclear localization signals, implying potential roles in protein interactions or nuclear processes. The protein is ubiquitously expressed across tissues, with higher levels observed in the testis, brain, and kidneys, hinting at tissue-specific functions.  


Current studies link C4orf14 to diverse cellular processes. It interacts with TRIM28, a transcriptional regulator involved in epigenetic silencing, suggesting a possible role in chromatin remodeling or gene expression. Additionally, C4orf14 has been implicated in cell cycle regulation, as its knockdown disrupts mitotic progression. Emerging evidence also associates *C4orf14* variants with diseases, including cancer (e.g., hepatocellular carcinoma) and neurodevelopmental disorders, though mechanistic insights remain scarce.
