The human C21orf33 protein, also known as PCARE or C21orf33, is encoded by the C21orf33 gene located on chromosome 21q22.11. This evolutionarily conserved protein is ubiquitously expressed, with notable abundance in the brain, retina, and testis. Structurally, it contains a conserved SUMO interaction motif (SIM) and putative zinc finger domains, suggesting roles in protein interactions and nucleic acid binding.
