背景信息

The surfactant protein D (SFTPD) antibody is a reagent targeting SFTPD, a key component of the pulmonary surfactant system primarily produced by alveolar type II cells and airway epithelial cells. SFTPD belongs to the collectin family, playing a critical role in innate immunity by binding to pathogens, allergens, and apoptotic cells via its carbohydrate-recognition domain, facilitating their opsonization and clearance. It also modulates inflammatory responses, maintaining immune homeostasis in the lungs.

SFTPD antibodies are widely used in research to detect SFTPD expression in conditions like acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), and viral infections (e.g., COVID-19). Altered SFTPD levels correlate with disease severity, making it a potential biomarker. Additionally, autoantibodies against SFTPD have been implicated in autoimmune disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis and hypersensitivity pneumonitis, where aberrant immune responses target pulmonary tissues.

Clinically, SFTPD antibodies aid in diagnostic assays and therapeutic development. Neutralizing antibodies or recombinant SFTPD are explored for modulating immune dysregulation. However, elevated anti-SFTPD autoantibodies may exacerbate tissue damage, highlighting dual roles in protection and pathology. Understanding SFTPD-antibody interactions offers insights into lung disease mechanisms and therapeutic opportunities.
