背景信息

The TOR1B antibody is a tool used to study Torsin family member 1B (TOR1B), a protein belonging to the AAA+ (ATPases Associated with diverse cellular Activities) superfamily. TOR1B is closely related to TOR1A (TorsinA), with which it shares ~70% amino acid sequence homology. Both are endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-localized ATPases implicated in cellular processes such as protein folding, membrane trafficking, and nuclear envelope dynamics. TOR1B is ubiquitously expressed and interacts with cofactors like LAP1 and LULL1. which regulate its ATPase activity. While TOR1A mutations are linked to early-onset torsion dystonia (DYT1), TOR1B’s precise physiological role remains less defined. Studies suggest functional redundancy or compensation between TOR1A and TOR1B, though TOR1B knockout models display milder phenotypes compared to TOR1A-deficient systems.

TOR1B antibodies are essential for detecting protein expression, localization, and interactions in techniques like Western blotting, immunofluorescence, or immunoprecipitation. They help investigate TOR1B’s involvement in ER stress response, neuronal development, and nuclear membrane integrity. Commercial antibodies are typically raised against specific epitopes, such as the N-terminal or C-terminal regions, and require validation for specificity due to homology with TOR1A. Recent research explores TOR1B’s potential role in neurodegenerative diseases and its interplay with viral pathogens, highlighting its emerging significance in cellular homeostasis and disease mechanisms.
