VCAM1 (Vascular Cell Adhesion Molecule 1), also known as CD106. is a cell surface glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It plays a critical role in mediating leukocyte-endothelial cell adhesion and signal transduction during inflammation. Expressed on activated endothelial cells, macrophages, and other cell types, VCAM1 binds to integrin α4β1 (VLA-4) on leukocytes, facilitating their recruitment to sites of injury or infection.
