Cadherin 5. also known as VE-cadherin (vascular endothelial cadherin) or CDH5. is a calcium-dependent cell adhesion protein predominantly expressed in vascular endothelial cells. As a key component of adherens junctions, it plays a critical role in maintaining vascular integrity, regulating endothelial barrier function, and mediating cell-cell interactions during angiogenesis and vascular development. Structurally, it consists of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic tail that interacts with catenins (e.g., β-catenin, p120-catenin) to link the actin cytoskeleton, ensuring mechanical stability and signal transduction.
Cadherin 5 antibodies are essential tools for studying endothelial biology and vascular-related pathologies. These antibodies specifically target epitopes on the extracellular or intracellular domains of Cadherin 5. enabling applications such as immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), Western blot (WB), and flow cytometry. They are widely used to investigate angiogenesis, tumor vasculature, and endothelial dysfunction in conditions like cancer, inflammation, and cardiovascular diseases. In research, Cadherin 5 antibodies help visualize vascular networks, assess endothelial permeability, and study signaling pathways involving VEGF or Wnt. Therapeutic potential is also explored, as modulating Cadherin 5 interactions may influence vascular remodeling or barrier regulation. Validation of antibody specificity remains crucial due to structural similarities among cadherin family members.
