背景信息

Alpha-internexin, also known as neuronal intermediate filament protein (NF66), is a type IV intermediate filament protein predominantly expressed in neurons of the central and peripheral nervous systems. It plays a critical role in maintaining neuronal structural integrity, axonal outgrowth, and cytoskeletal organization during neurodevelopment. Unlike other neurofilament proteins (NF-L, NF-M, NF-H), alpha-internexin is expressed early in neuronal differentiation, making it a marker for immature neurons and neural progenitor cells. Its gene, *INA*, is located on human chromosome 10q24.33.

Alpha-internexin antibodies are essential tools in neuroscience research, used to detect and study the protein’s expression, localization, and function. These antibodies are widely applied in techniques such as immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), and Western blotting (WB) to investigate neural development, neuronal subtypes, and pathological conditions. Notably, alpha-internexin has been implicated in neurological disorders, including neuroblastoma, gliomas, and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s, where its aggregation or dysregulation may contribute to disease progression. Its expression patterns also aid in classifying neuronal tumors and understanding neural network plasticity.

Research using alpha-internexin antibodies has highlighted its potential as a diagnostic or prognostic biomarker. However, cross-reactivity with other intermediate filaments requires careful validation to ensure specificity. These studies underscore its importance in both basic neurobiology and clinical applications.
