Folate binding protein (FBP), also known as folate receptor alpha (FRα) or FOLR1. is a glycoprotein that binds and transports folate (vitamin B9) into cells via receptor-mediated endocytosis. It plays a critical role in cellular folate uptake, particularly in tissues with high folate demand, such as rapidly dividing cells. FBP is anchored to cell membranes via glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) and exists in two forms: a membrane-bound isoform and a soluble form secreted into biological fluids.
