Nuclear factor of activated T cells 1 (NFAT1), also known as NFATC2. is a transcription factor belonging to the NFAT family, which includes five members (NFAT1-5). These proteins regulate immune responses, cellular differentiation, and development. NFAT1 is calcium-sensitive and primarily controlled by the calcineurin signaling pathway. Upon calcium influx, calcineurin dephosphorylates NFAT1. enabling its translocation to the nucleus to activate target genes involved in T-cell activation, cytokine production, and cell survival.
