背景信息

The CDK5 (Ab-15) antibody is a monoclonal antibody specifically designed to detect cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (CDK5), a serine/threonine kinase belonging to the CDK family. Unlike other CDKs involved in cell cycle regulation, CDK5 is primarily active in postmitotic neurons, playing critical roles in nervous system development, synaptic plasticity, and neurodegeneration. Its activation depends on binding to non-cyclin coactivators, notably p35 or p39. which direct its substrate specificity. Dysregulation of CDK5 activity, often linked to proteolytic cleavage of p35 into p25. is implicated in Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurodegenerative disorders due to aberrant phosphorylation of substrates like tau and amyloid precursor protein (APP).

The Ab-15 clone recognizes an epitope within the C-terminal region of human CDK5. enabling specific detection in applications such as Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunoprecipitation. It is widely used in neuroscience research to study CDK5 expression, activation states, and interactions with regulatory proteins. Validated for reactivity in human, mouse, and rat samples, this antibody helps elucidate CDK5’s dual roles in physiological processes (e.g., neuronal migration, memory formation) and pathological mechanisms (e.g., neurofibrillary tangle formation). Its specificity and reliability make it a key tool for exploring CDK5-related signaling pathways and therapeutic targets in neurological diseases.
