Lysyl oxidase-like 4 (LOXL4) is a member of the lysyl oxidase (LOX) family, which comprises copper-dependent enzymes (LOX and LOXL1-4) that catalyze crosslinking of collagen and elastin in the extracellular matrix (ECM), contributing to tissue integrity and remodeling. LOXL4 shares structural homology with other LOX family members, including a conserved catalytic domain, but exhibits distinct expression patterns and regulatory roles. It is implicated in ECM homeostasis, fibrosis, and cancer progression.

LOXL4 is dysregulated in various cancers, such as colorectal, gastric, and breast cancers, where it may exert context-dependent pro- or anti-tumorigenic effects.
