SNAP-23 (Synaptosome-associated protein of 23 kDa) is a member of the SNARE (soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor) family, which plays a central role in membrane fusion events during intracellular trafficking and exocytosis. Unlike its neuron-specific homolog SNAP-25. SNAP-23 is ubiquitously expressed and mediates vesicle docking and fusion in diverse secretory pathways, including neurotransmitter release, hormone secretion, and immune cell communication. It interacts with syntaxin and synaptobrevin/VAMP proteins to form the core SNARE complex, enabling the fusion of vesicles with target membranes.
SNAP-23 antibodies are critical tools for studying its expression, localization, and function in cellular processes. These antibodies are widely used in techniques like Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunoprecipitation to investigate SNAP-23's role in diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and immune disorders, where its dysregulation has been linked to altered secretion or membrane trafficking. Researchers also employ SNAP-23 antibodies to explore its involvement in pathological conditions, including platelet activation, insulin exocytosis, and cytokine release in inflammation. Both monoclonal and polyclonal variants are available, often validated for specificity using knockout controls or competitive assays. Understanding SNAP-23 dynamics through antibody-based studies continues to shed light on fundamental membrane biology and therapeutic targets.
