**Background of COPS5 Antibody**
The COPS5 antibody is a tool used to detect and study the COP9 signalosome subunit 5 (COPS5), a critical component of the COP9 signalosome (CSN) complex. The CSN is an evolutionarily conserved multiprotein complex involved in regulating ubiquitin-proteasome-mediated protein degradation, primarily by modulating cullin-RING ubiquitin ligases (CRLs). COPS5. also known as CSN5 or Jab1. plays a central role in this process through its isopeptidase activity, which removes the ubiquitin-like protein NEDD8 from cullins, thereby regulating CRL activity and substrate specificity.
Beyond its role in protein degradation, COPS5 participates in diverse cellular processes, including cell cycle progression, DNA damage response, and signaling pathways such as NF-κB and HIF-1α. Dysregulation of COPS5 has been implicated in cancer, inflammation, and neurodegenerative diseases, with studies linking its overexpression to tumor progression and poor prognosis.
COPS5 antibodies are essential for investigating its expression, localization, and interactions in various biological contexts. They are widely used in techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and co-immunoprecipitation to explore COPS5’s molecular mechanisms and therapeutic potential. Available as monoclonal or polyclonal variants, these antibodies enable researchers to dissect COPS5’s dual roles as a regulator of cellular homeostasis and a contributor to disease pathogenesis.
