CD10 antibody targets the CD10 antigen, a cell surface metalloproteinase also known as neutral endopeptidase (NEP) or common acute lymphoblastic leukemia antigen (CALLA). CD10 is a zinc-dependent enzyme that cleaves bioactive peptides, including chemokines, neuropeptides, and hormones, regulating their activity. In normal physiology, CD10 is expressed in lymphoid progenitors, mature granulocytes, and certain epithelial cells. It plays a role in B-cell development, particularly during the transition from pre-B to immature B cells.
CD10 gained clinical significance as a diagnostic marker in hematopathology. It is highly expressed in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and some B-cell lymphomas (e.g., follicular lymphoma, Burkitt lymphoma). In solid tumors, CD10 expression varies; it is detected in renal cell carcinomas, endometrial stromal sarcomas, and subsets of breast carcinomas, often correlating with aggressive behavior. Pathologists use CD10 antibodies to differentiate tumor types (e.g., distinguishing renal cell carcinoma from renal oncocytoma) and assess lineage in hematopoietic malignancies.
Therapeutically, CD10 inhibition has been explored to enhance chemotherapeutic efficacy by preventing peptide degradation. However, its role as a direct therapeutic target remains limited. CD10 antibodies remain indispensable tools in diagnostic immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry, bridging molecular function with clinical applications in oncology and immunology research.
