背景信息

The α-smooth muscle actin (ACTA2) antibody is a crucial tool in biomedical research for detecting ACTA2. a protein encoded by the ACTA2 gene. ACTA2 is a cytoskeletal protein predominantly expressed in vascular smooth muscle cells (SMCs), myofibroblasts, and certain contractile cells. It plays a pivotal role in maintaining vascular tone, cell motility, and tissue contractility. In pathological conditions, ACTA2 expression is upregulated in activated myofibroblasts during fibrosis, wound healing, and cancer-associated stromal reactions, making it a marker for studying fibrotic diseases, tumor microenvironments, and vascular remodeling.

ACTA2 antibodies are widely used in immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), and Western blotting to identify SMC-rich tissues (e.g., blood vessels, hollow organs) or myofibroblast activation in conditions like atherosclerosis, cirrhosis, or solid tumors.
